Lab Philosophy

This statement outlines the core values we strive to uphold in our lab and how we approach open and team-based science. This is a living document that we will revisit and revise as the lab grows over time. The document aims to consider all team members' perspectives to promote a positive research culture.

Diversity rocks!

We believe that differences in our cultures, experiences and perspectives make our team stronger, more innovative and much more fun! We are committed to fostering an inclusive research environment in our team and the broader scientific community.

We also actively support equality, inclusion and diversity initiatives through organizations such as the ALBA network to foster fair & diverse scientific communities in brain research. We aim to facilitate our research efforts as a team while also supporting our individual career goals.

Team-based and Open Science

Proper brain function involves the coordinated action of an enormous amount of brain cells across many brain regions. Understanding such a complex organ requires an integrated knowledge of the structure and function of the brain circuits across multiple levels of organisation. To approach this challenge, we combine the study of genes, cells, microcircuits, and brain areas with controlled behavioural experiments to probe how the brain transforms incoming visual signals into learned actions. Our interdisciplinary research draws upon various disciplines, from molecular biology, cellular and systems neuroscience, computational science, and engineering.

We strive to do good science and work as a team in collaboration with other labs to advance the field.  We aim to promote open science and share the tools and resources we will develop with the community to facilitate the scientific process.
